Please excuse me while I reblog some Brianna McCarthy J’Ouvert photos today. My dad is heading back to Trinidad in a week or so and the thought makes me homesick.
(I used to caveat every time I used the word “homesick” in relation to Trinidad, b/c I’m a born Canadian and live here happily, which has always been an important thing to remind white Canadians who want to question my nationality. But, y’know, fuck it — Iere will always be my home as well, deep inside of me, cane blades sunk into my heart and spreading brown sugar and black molasses. I’m a Canadian, and I’m fucking homesick.)
I’d like to be this colour semi permanently. It’s gorgeous and rich.
My bangles aren’t back to normal yet but I’m happy I wore them.Carnival 2012. Trinidad.
